Description
This utterly beautiful herb sickle was handmade from recycled steel.. hot forged and sharpened to a gentle cutting edge.
It is small 18cm from top to end of handle, so a great size for using and carrying, and absolutely a sickle for herb work not grass felling
The handle is a piece of reindeer antler, cut and shaped at the end, but still it’s natural colour. The antlers of the reindeer are shed naturally each year, so no animal was killed for the antler. I know the reindeer personally as a dear friend has a herd of reindeer, so know they are well kept, roaming over huge fields and very much loved. This is important to me as I feel the antler or any animal product I use must be ethically sourced.
At the top of the handle, joining the blade is a hand shaped pieces of recycled copper.
The herb sickle comes in a soft leather pouch for safe keeping… the leather is from a friend who makes shoes and is made from his off cuts. He also sources his animal based products ethically, this piece of leather comes from Spain where he use to live, and has been self tanned.
These is a bespoke item created with love, it can be used as a practical tool, I have one myself I use for cutting herbs for my lotions and potions, and also for my kitchen foodie creations.
But it may also be used as a sacred item in magic and ceremony.
The blade is sharpened to a cutting edge for herb work, and can be sharpened again using a normal steel.
